Antique Scroll of Dragon and Plum



Typically dragons are portrayed flying among the clouds, mingling with tigers and sages, or rising near Mt. Fuji. However, this painting portrays a dragon that is rising among branches of flowering plum. An uncommon setting. The painting contains the energetic impact through the splatter of black sumi ink added around the image of the dragon. The work is by an artist named Ganryo. One of the seals contains a name that is seen with zen monks and one assumption is that the artist may have been a monk.
